Our policy on pricing, gear and payments

Do you provide quotes?

We sure do!

Quotations:

We are happy to provide a price quotation to you free of charge, however, if a job is likely to cost less than $1000 it is often not cost-effective to drive to the site, inspect the job and then quote. If you can supply photos, we can assess the job and give an estimate of the work involved.

Estimates:

We prefer (free) estimates rather than quotations. This gives the customer an idea of the cost of a job based on the information provided. Quotes tend to add an additional margin to cover any incidentals, whereas estimates are a fair way for customers to only pay for what is completed.

Troubleshooting/fault finding:

Fault finding before the quotation or estimate does incur a cost. Since we don’t know what the problem is we must first have an electrician find the fault before we can give you a quotation. This can take anywhere between 1 and several hours depending on the site or the nature of the fault. Our standard labour charges apply in this case.

If there is more work or a problem that will cost more, do you tell the customer?

Yes, always! If we are booked to complete a powerpoint install and we find an issue with your electrics, we will contact you to confirm any additional work before proceeding.

What is ‘trade price’?

Our materials are billed at the Trade Price set by the suppliers we buy from - JA Russell, Scott Electrical, Voltex Electrical, etc. Please note that trade price is not cost price, but an accurate indication of market pricing for the electrical industry from approved, trusted, and accredited electrical NZ wholesalers. If you have any questions regarding our pricing, please do not hesitate to reach out to us before job commencement.

What is the first-hour charge for?

The first-hour charge covers 1 hour of labor, travel, and administration costs.

I can find some materials cheaper online. Why are you charging more?

We only supply high-quality gear from our trusted suppliers (predominately JA Russells and Scotts Electrical, as well as Voltex Electrical as do most residential electricians). Some websites are selling below even our cost price, making very little margin OR they are selling an inferior product. It is impossible for us to keep up with the myriad of websites that come and go selling off-brand or heavily discounted products.

There is also a plethora of issues that come with using these online electrical suppliers, including warranties, quality, ease of getting product and returning the product that isn’t used. While we understand that on the surface, it may seem like a saving, it is not feasible for a residential electrician and would ultimately cause issues with customers down the line.

Can I supply my own electrical gear?

Many of our customers source one-of-a-kind or unique light fixtures – that is totally fine! We love installing interesting pieces.

However, we don't complete jobs where the customers provide the general materials (like switches, cables, RCDs, etc), as we cannot provide the customer a warranty on our work.

Why have I been charged for a COC?

COCs are a legal requirement for home or business owners when electrical work is carried out at their address. Time goes in to creating a COC, and this cost is passed on to the customer.

On the job

If there is more work or a problem that will cost more, do you tell the customer?

Yes, always! If we are booked to complete a power point install and we find an issue with your electrics, we will contact you to confirm any additional work before proceeding.

Do you bring enough electrical supplies to complete the job on the day?

Our service vans are well stocked with a range of electrical supplies, however, there is occasionally the odd part we need to either pick up from a local supplier or order specially for you. If we need to order a part we will endeavor to get the job completed as soon as possible once we have received it.

Do I need to be onsite while you are working?

Not at all! We do like to meet you and say goodbye, but that isn’t necessary. Just leave us entry and lock-up instructions and we’ll take care of the rest.

Will you clean up after the job is complete?

Absolutely! In fact, we pride ourselves on leaving worksites clean and tidy 😊

Why do you have an apprentice with you? Won’t this cost me more?

Most of our jobs are attended by a fully qualified tradesman and apprentice. This ensures the job runs safely and quickly. For example, it is much faster to have one person in the ceiling pulling cable and one person at ground level feeding cable. As the job runs faster, the customer saves money on hours, and the apprentice is charged at a lesser rate.

Are you pet friendly?

Ummm, yes! We LOVE animals. We will absolutely be snapping pics for the gram.

Payment

How long do we have to pay an invoice?

7 days.

I wasn’t expecting this invoice, can I pay later?

We do expect payment on the due date. If you can’t make payment, there are several finance companies that you can contact which have quick loan facilities. Please reach out if you have any questions at all.

Can I get a golds card discount?

We would love to give discounts, however as a small business, we cannot afford this currently. Maybe one day!

What happens if I don’t pay my invoice?

We will contact you to remind you of your overdue invoice. Further action may need to be taken by way of debt collection and interest charges. For more information, check out the terms of trade document which is sent with all job bookings.

How do we make payment?

Upon completion of work, we will send an invoice to the email address you provided, and you can pay by Internet banking.

Do you take cash payments?

We prefer payment via electronic banking. You can also visit your local ASB and deposit the payment directly into our account. Our account details are located at the bottom of our invoices.
